About
What is Veritas?
It is a Latin word meaning “truth” and it is the name of the young adults ministry at Eastpoint Church.
Why that name?
Jesus said that knowing the truth sets us free (John 8:32). Which means that when we are living with lies, hiding our sin, or in some way operating in anything other than the truth we are bound…we are enslaved…we are trapped. Pursuing truth, knowing the truth and telling the truth is essential to living a life worth dying for.
So is Veritas just for young adults?
The ministry is geared toward young adults, generally meaning anyone out of high school up to their mid thirties… However, it will be open to anyone regardless of age. WARNING!!! It will be geared toward young adults…if you are young at heart cool…if not don’t bother complaining.
So what’s the plan?
Everything we do will be for the purpose of helping people to live in the truth and in so doing to live up to image of Christ. Jesus said that those who would be like Him, His disciples, would be known for their love. He also said that all the demands of God could be met by simply loving God and loving others. So to keep things simple we are going to spend all our time, energy and efforts on three things: 1. Teaching people what it’s like to Love God and be loved by God. 2. Teaching people what it’s like to Love Others and be loved by others. 3. Teaching people what it’s like to Reach the World with the love of God. This will be accomplished in the following ways…
Sunday Afternoon Service – (Love God) Veritas will be running a 12:15pm service every Sunday. Children Ministry will be available and make sure you’re prompt because Veritas starts with the sermon and ends with music!
Weekly Small Groups – (Love Others) There will be couples hosting small groups in their homes throughout the week. These will be open to anyone and will provide a place for a deeper sense of belonging as well as a more focused study of the word. How this will work is that every day we will be posting on the Veritas Website a daily portion of the bible to read. When a person reads this they are then encouraged to answer three questions about what they read: 1. What did I learn about God? 2. What did I learn about people? 3. What can I apply to my life? After journaling their thoughts and/or writing them on the open comment section of webpage, they will bring these thoughts for discussion to their small group once a week.
Community Events & Service – (Reach the World) There are many different things going on within our community both for entertainment and for serving. We will be promoting and generating awareness of events in the community as well as providing opportunities to serve those in our community who have needs.
